Level 3
Diploma in GAMES DESIGN

Unit 1 PRE-PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES FOR THE CREATIVE MEDIA INDUSTRIES

Procedure

Identify Finance Available

Josh has given me a budget of £1K. In addition, I also have access to the facilities of South Leicester College, such as the Computers (DELLs with Intel® Core™ 2DUO Processor and 4.00 GB of Memory), GameMaker Studio, Adobe PhotoShop CS6 and MSPaint. I’d also have access to stock libraries from the internet for free music and sound effects.

Identify Personnel Needed and Available

This project will be worked on solely by myself. In addition, I will also have the support of my Teachers (Wayne Gallear, Josh Rai or Caitlin McReynolds). However, if I were to hire out staff I would hire an Artist, a Designer and a Composer, while I’d work on the technical bits such as Programming and Producing. They would work for 2 days and be pay £175 per day minimum.

Identify Resources Needed and Available

I will be using the free resources and facilities provided of South Leicestershire College. If I were to pay for these then the following would cost: Dell OPTIPLEX 755 SFF (£238.00), GameMaker Studio (£469.00) and Adobe PhotoShop CS6 (£395.00). The latter two, however, have free trial versions which last up to 30 days. If I had to pay for all of this then I would have to somehow expand my budget.

Prepare Budget

To my prepare my budget I’d create a professional looking table using with Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel, in order to show the costs, resources etc.

Contract personnel

In order to contract staff I’d look for personnel I’d look at different independent recruitment agencies, using the internet or newspapers. Once hired, I’d write up a contract with the agreed amount I’d owe them and what I expect them to do.

Prepare Schedule

Here, I will prepare a production schedule of completing Wayne’s Game that’ll identify when I will be working through the stages of games development and how long it’ll take that I will spend on it.

Identify Health and Safety Concerns

Here, I will create a checklist via Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel of Health and Safety Concerns then proceed to tick them off as I go through the list.

Identify Legal Aspects

As my research shows, I will follow the PEGI rating system, which currently suggest my game is  3+ Years game because of the lack of violence, profanity etc. If I was to also create an advert I would follow the ASA Code of Conduct by using the UK Code of Broadcast Advertising.

Identify any other risks to your project

In addition, I will also list the concerns I have and how I can overcome them such as losing my work and knowing that I should make multiple copies. Also if college is closed, scheduling my work on the days and times I can access the college's facilities.
